Wade Wilson and David Cunningham[src]

David Cunningham was a patient at the Workshop and one of Wade Wilson's cellmates.

Biography[]

Deadpool[]

David Cunningham was one of the many people used as test subjects at the Workshop. While there, he struck up a bond with Wade, who was also a patient there at the time. In order to distract themselves from the endless torture they were forced to endure on an almost daily basis, they would joke around and talk about their past lives. One day, Wade revealed to Cunningham that Ajax's real name was Francis and mocked him for it, causing Ajax to furiously seal him inside a hypobaric chamber over the weekend.

Following his successful mutation, Wade was able to escape by triggering an explosion inside his capsule, setting the entire facility ablaze. He then attacked Ajax, but ultimately lost the fight due to his poor health at the time and Ajax's superior fighting skills. After being impaled through the chest with rebar and left to die by Ajax, Wade heard Cunningham call his name and the two of them saw each other face-to-face for the first time.

Unfortunately for Cunningham, the explosion didn't free him from his restraints. Instead, all it did was knock over his bed, leaving him pinned to the ground. With no way out, Cunningham exchanged one last sad look with Wade and closed his eyes as he was consumed by flames, perishing as the facility fell apart.

Cunningham would ultimately be avenged when Deadpool defeated Ajax in a rematch about a year after the Workshop's destruction and fatally shot him in the head.
